Broadband Speeds Explained

Broadband Speed is the rate at which your connection to the internet downloads or uploads data. Generally, the faster the speed the quicker your system will download files and load web pages. Broadband speeds are typically described as “up to” a certain amount of data per second and this is the maximum speed that can be achieved. Typically, the actual speed of a broadband line is lower due to the factors explained below.

You can use our Speed Checker to view an estimate of the actual speed you will receive from our service. The Speed Checker takes into account a number of issues such as the distance of your site from the BT exchange to estimate the speed.

What can affect broadband speeds?Broadband speed is dependent on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the following;

  • The age and quality of the cabling from your site to the BT exchange
  • The distance between your site and the BT exchange
  • Interference from other devices at your site, for example, Christmas tree lights
  • Weather conditions
  • The quality of your router
  • The speed of the web site your are downloading pages from

Please Note:

  • To transfer from your existing provider you will need an active BT line
  • We can provide new installations. Call us now on 0844 848 81 44 for further details
  • Broadband services are subject to survey and availability.
